Neon Sign 03:45
Neon sign, neon light, Side by side to the station, step in time. Tell a joke, pinch a smoke, Light it from one to another, noses bump. Hook an arm, little charm, Walk the long way round the houses, no alarms. From the mist, flash of pink, Someone invented colour just for him. Pencil thin, stumbling, Fall into queuing taxis, goose bumping. Painted face, lemonade, Hiding behind a smile, simple grace. Rhythm step, rhythm kept, All this exists around us, Step, next step. Given time, we align, Saying something, saying nothing, nevermind.

Oh the traffic slows and our pipes are frozen, There’s a northerly from the arctic blowing, On the radio hear that the schools are closing, I’m knee deep in snow. Fall the snowflakes down on the co-op car park, Then I’m falling onto a hidden glass shard, Seven stitches done and I’m proud of my new scar, Knee deep in snow. Now Bradford stills every sound is muffled, No one’s going anywhere but they seem unruffled, Snowball fight turns into a minor scuffle, Knee deep in snow. Leave the picture house out into the winter, Chaos taking over the city centre, Students ambush buses a night to remember, Knee deep in snow. From afar I see it, a tiny child’s glove, Colours contrasting with the snow like spilt blood, Everything about it speaks of a new love, Knee deep in snow.

This Morning 03:54
Your breath mists the air, Your feet crack the frost, Your laugh breaks the silence of this morning. Your shape throws a shadow, Your nose feels the cold, Your eyes surprised by the light of this morning. By the light of this morning. Your cheeks soak the warmth, You smell melting earth, And the sparrows begin the song of this morning, the song of this morning, the song of this morning.

about

'Winter' is the last in my series of Seasons EPs for 2019. Glaciers form and melt, a couple walk to the station, a boy falls in the snow, sparrows begin the song of this morning. As we observe the effects of catastrophic climate change, these stories are small and insignificant, set in their own time and place. I hope you enjoy them.
